San Francisco International Gift Fair
Introduces Shades of India to West Coast San Francisco, CA-February 7, 2004-Aariya makes its company debut in the At Home section of the San Francisco International Gift Fair in Booth 5109. Founded in June 2003, Aariya brings the spice and warmth of sophisticated India to the North American market through a singular collection of home furnishings and accessories. Co-founder and Managing Director Rohini Sabikhi describes the genesis of the Aariya collection, “We saw a need in the market for a new design aesthetic. The existing goods in the home furnishings market were either very modern and cold or very traditional and feminine-we find that the sophisticated Indian aesthetic balances beauty with modern forms in a way that is inviting and elegant.” One of the designers Aariya will showcase at the show is Shades of India. Although Shades of India has exhibited for several years at Maison et Objet in Paris and is featured in high-end European department stores, SFIGF marks the first time the Shades of India bedding and tabletop lines will be shown on the West Coast. “We’re excited to have Aariya bringing the Shades of India product to the West Coast. We know it will fit into the casually elegant outlook of this market,” says David Housego, president of Shades of India. Aariya will also feature an extensive line of handcrafted home furnishings and accessories in wood, metal, paper, and stone. The entire Aariya collection was inspired by the timeless craft traditions of India. Many of Aariya’s products represent the evolution of art forms that were used in creating monuments as phenomenal as the Taj Mahal. “What’s remarkable is that these art forms that were once only for the elite can now be enjoyed in one’s own home,” explains Sabikhi.
